Ryan Rickelton scored a run-a-ball 126 as the Central Gauteng Lions beat the Northerns Titans by 38 runs in Centurion in the opening round of the One-Day Cup on Friday.
A fifth-wicket partnership of 111 between Rickelton – who was not selected for the Proteas Test tour of Australia because of an ankle injury – and Sisanda Magala (37) helped the Lions recover from 91-4. Evan Jones then scored 41* off 35 balls as the visitors ended on 271-8.

Magala then ripped into the Titans’ batting lineup, dismissing Jiveshan Pillay (nought), Neil Brand (four) and Dewald Brevis (nine).
Aiden Markram stabilised the innings with 80 off 62 balls, before being caught and bowled by Liam Alder in the 26th over.
Junior Dala hit 62 while batting at No 9, before the Titans were bowled out for 233.
In other matches on Friday, Janneman Malan’s 103 was in vain as the Boland Rocks suffered a four-wicket loss to the KZN Dolphins in Paarl, and Tristan Stubbs’ *81 wasn’t enough for the EP Warriors, who lost by two runs to the North West Dragons in Potchefstroom.
