The Central Gauteng Lions will host the Western Province Blitz in the One-Day Cup final next Thursday.
The Lions, who had already secured top spot on the log going into the last round of league matches, thrashed the KZN Dolphins by seven wickets at Kingsmead on Friday, while WP beat the Boland Rocks by 74 runs in what was effectively a semi-final in Paarl.
Friday’s other match, between the Free State Knights and Northerns Titans in Bloemfontein, was abandoned due to rain.
Mihlali Mpongwana scored 96 off 110 balls for Western Province after coming in with his team in big trouble on 44-4. He combined with Edward Moore (33), George Linde (17) and Wayne Parnell (44) to get the visitors to a competitive 246-8. Bamanye Xenxe took 3-52 for the Rocks.
In reply, Boland were bowled out for 172 in 35.4 overs. Opener Leus du Plooy top-scored with 57, while Linde took 3-23.
In Durban, the Dolphins were bowled out for 170 in 47 overs, with Eathan Bosch making 48 and Prenelan Subrayen 30. Wiaan Mulder (3-19) and Sisanda Magala (3-46) were the Lions’ most successful bowlers.
The visitors then cruised to victory in 43 overs thanks to 95* from opener Joshua Richards and Mitchell van Buuren’s 44.
