Kenya defeated SWD by one wicket thanks to a career-best innings by Alex Obanda in the Africa T20 Cup today.
Dane Paterson (3-22) showed an exceptional display of death-bowling with a brace in the 18th over but could not silence Kenya as they snatched a victory at the death.
Niel Hornbuckle did well to slow down Kenya but it was not enough to save SWD’s chances of advancing. Obanda batted well from the front with a Man-of-the-Match performance scoring 86 runs off 53 deliveries, hitting a maximum off the last ball of the match.
SWD looked dangerous from the start, as Hanno Kotze raced to 34 off 16 balls before rain stopped play by the sixth over, ending the good momentum they built. The losing captain Dane Villas fought hard to put on 31 runs but could not string good partnerships together as the hosts posted 151-8 at the end of their 20 overs.
Kenya’s victory earned them the necessary two points to keep their chances in the tournament alive and they will play Northern Cape tomorrow, who have already advanced to the semis, topping the group with six points.
