Anrich Nortje’s back injury could be more serious than CSA has made it out to be.
The Proteas fast bowler suffered back spasms during the second ODI against Australia in Bloemfontein.
CSA said on Friday that the fast bowler had been for scans and would miss the last two matches of the ODI series against Australia, on Friday and Sunday, but would “start bowling again this weekend under the watchful eye of the Proteas’ medical team.”
However, according to Rapport newspaper, there are fears that the injury could rule Nortje out of the World Cup, which starts on 5 October in India.
“We are concerned about it and a specialist is looking at him now,” Dr Shuaib Manjra, CSA’s medical chief, told Rapport. “We will give him the best possible chance to be available and ready for the World Cup.”
