Head coach JP Triegaardt has heralded the inclusion of talented duo Andrew Louw and Beyers Swanepoel in the Northern Cape’s squad for this month’s Provincial T20 Cup.
The squad will be captained by Knights all-rounder Aubrey Swanepoel and also includes franchise trio Patrick Kruger, Ottneil Baartman and Clyde Fortuin.
‘I am very happy with the mix we have between youth and experience in our squad,’ said Triegaardt.
‘The four franchise players will come with good form and experience, while our younger brigade includes Louw and Swanepoel.
‘We are all looking forward to the competition. We have home-ground advantage.’
The tournament used to be called the Africa T20 Cup. Gauteng, who were captained by Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma last year, are the reigning champions after beating Border in last year’s final.
The current title holders will be captained by seamer Nono Pongolo this time. Bavuma is part of South Africa’s squad for this month’s three T20Is against India. He has also been included in the squad for October’s three Tests against the Indians.
Former Dolphins and Lions fast bowler Craig Alexander, meanwhile, has been named in Boland’s squad.
The squad also features Cape Cobras trio Ferisco Adams, Simon Khomari and Lizaad Williams and will be coached by former Proteas seamer Henry Williams.
