The SA Cricketers’ Association will “protect” the Proteas players who testify during coach Mark Boucher’s disciplinary hearing.
The hearing will take place from 16-20 May, with chairman Adv Terry Motau revealing in a statement that Boucher “intends to call some of the players to testify on his behalf”.
“Our mandate is to protect the players,” Saca CEO Andrew Breetzke told Sport24. “If players require any protection during this process, we will be there for them.
“If that means assisting them with their own legal representation as witnesses, or getting certain undertakings from CSA relative to the process, we will be doing that.
“No player can be prejudiced in how he approaches this, either way, and that is something we will be demanding from CSA in this process.”

Breetzke stressed it should be the player’s decision whether to testify or not and that his decision should be respected.
“It is every player’s decision, and we will back them either way,” he said. “A player must follow his conscience.
“Saca is at its strongest when it is protecting the players. One of Cricket SA’s biggest assets is the Proteas men, and that’s who we are talking about here. That should be their [Cricket SA’s] biggest concern as well.”
