SA U19 star Kwena Maphaka has joined the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 IPL.
The 17-year-old left-arm fast bowler replaces the injured Dilshan Madushanka in the squad.
Maphaka was named the Player of the Tournament at this year’s U19 World Cup after picking up 21 wickets, at an average of 9.71 and a strike rate of 15.28, as South Africa made the semi-finals.
He became the first player to collect a trio of five-wicket hauls at a single edition of the tournament.
Maphaka debuted for the SA U19 team at 15, has already played in two U19 World Cups, and has also represented South Africa A and South Africa Emerging teams.
He is currently in his matric year at St Stithians College.
