Chris Morris added a blistering 97 for the Titans in Benoni against a rampaging Lions’ attack to earn the Play of the Day award, writes ANITHA MADIKIZELA.
Morris smashed a scintillating 97 off 77 balls at a strike rate of 125.97 as he carried the Titans from a paltry 95-6 when he walked to the crease to a more respectable 229 when he was the last wicket to fall in the innings.
The all-rounder resumed on day two on 46 – after weather and bad light had halted proceedings early the day before – and came out guns blazing as he took the attack to the formidable Lions’ bowlers.

His 97 was littered with boundaries as he amassed 11 fours and four blistering sixes during the onslaught. Morris will have been greatly disappointed to have fallen just three runs shy of his fifth first-class century as Wihan Lubbe completed the catch following a brilliant delivery from Wiaan Mulder (4-55 in 15.5 overs).
CAUGHT: Morris goes for 97 falling 3 runs short of his century. He is caught off the bowling of Mulder.

His heroics could still prove in vain as the Lions have taken a commanding grip in the encounter against the defending champions. The visitors finished day two on 288-4, with opener Dominic Hendricks (91) and captain Nicky van den Bergh (40) at the crease.
Hendricks will hope to upstage Morris and reach his century with the Lions looking to add to their 59-run lead.
