Chris Morris took 3-21 in the Delhi Daredevils’ first match as they lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 15 runs.
The Proteas all-rounder took a wicket in his first over, and two in his last, to end with his second best figures of his IPL career.
Morris has been superb against Chris Gayle in the past, conceding 36 runs in 5 innings against him, and dismissing the West Indies big-hitter on two occasions. He made it three, dismissing Gayle on 6 in his second over of the evening.
He took his final two wickets in the 20th over to dismiss both Pawan Negi (10) and Tymal Mills (0) to restrict the hosts to 157-8.
Royal Challengers Bangalore defended their score well to reduce DD to 142-9 and claim a 15-run victory.

Hashim Amla contributed to the Kings XI Punjab’s winning total of 164-4, but could not capitalise on a decent start which saw him reach 28 of 27 balls (two fours and a six). The Proteas ODI opener formed part of a top-order collapse which saw his side lose four wickets for 71 runs.
Imran Tahir played his part in the Kings’ collapse, taking 2-29, but it was David Miller (30 off 27) who stood out in the match, putting on a 61-run winning partnership with Glenn Maxwell (44 off 20) to take the hosts to six-wicket victory in their opening match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.
