A superb century by Grant Mokoena kept the Knights in the contest against the Cape Cobras alive at Newlands.
Mokoena and opening partner Luthando Mnyanda shared an opening partnership of 61, after which the former and Keegan Petersen shared a superb partnership of 152 for the second wicket to eat up the 141-run deficit the Cobras had over the Knights on the morning of day three of the 4-Day Franchise Series match at Cape Town.
The Cobras bowlers stuck to their task but had to wait until the 61st over for the breakthrough when Aviwe Mgijima bowled Mokoena after scoring 113 off 179 balls (20 fours) with the score on 213.
Petersen fell leg before to Dane Piedt for 74 off 117 balls (12 fours) without adding to the score, the Knights ending the day on 240-3, with Piedt taking 2-73 (Econ 3-31).
Earlier in the day, the Cobras had closed their first innings on 420, Pieter Malan falling for 129 off 296 balls (18 fours), with Rory Kleinveldt scoring 52 off 57 balls (six fours, three sixes) and Dane Paterson 41 off 43 balls (four fours, two sixes).
