David Miller has been included in South Africa A’s squad for the side’s four-day matches at home to Australia A.
‘It is my dream (to play Tests) and I am working really hard for that. I know it may take some time, but I am prepared to wait and be patient for my chance. As I said, it is my dream to play Test cricket for South Africa,’ Miller said in 2015.
Miller is joined in the SA A squad by fellow Proteas players Wayne Parnell and Dwaine Pretorious, who both featured in the Proteas’ Champions Trophy campaign.
CSA convenor of selectors, Linda Zondi, believes the inclusion of the Proteas trio will help SA A bounce back from a disappointing tour of England, while also offering guidance to the younger squad members.
‘The SA A side had a disappointing tour of England. This series, together with the following four-day series against India A is a very important one,’ he said.
‘The additions to the squad bring a lot of top-level experience with them and this will help the younger players to develop,’ Zondi added.
Lions all-rounder Bjorn Fortuin has also been rewarded for his consistency at franchise level, and will form part of both the four-day squad to play Australia and the one-day squad to play the triangular series against Australia A and India A.
‘Fortuin did very well for the SA Emerging Squad against their Sri Lanka counterparts last year when he took 12 wickets in the first match, and played a pivotal role in winning the series. He has also been a regular member of the Lions franchise squad for some time, and we feel he is ready for the next step up,’ Zondi said.
The first four-day match against Australia A will take place on 12 July.
