• Miller drops one, holds four in defeat to Mumbai

Proteas star David Miller took four catches but dropped one as the Kings XI Punjab lost to the Mumbai Indians by three wickets in Wednesday’s Indian Premier League fixture at the Wankhede Stadium.

Centurion Lokesh Rahul pushed Punjab to a final total of 197 for four, after which Mumbai reached 198 for seven in exactly the allotted 20 overs.

Rahul’s 100 not out spanned 64 deliveries – and featured six sixes and as many fours. The ton was the fourth of the 2019 tournament. Sunrisers Hyderabad duo Jonny Bairstow and David Warner, and Rajasthan Royals star Sanju Samson boast the others.

Rahul was well supported by the big-hitting Chris Gayle, who struck 63 from 36. While Gayle was particularly expansive against Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff, Rahul capitalised against the Indian seamer Hardik Pandya.

The triumphant pursuit was spearheaded by all-rounder Kieron Pollard, whose 83 from 31 defied an opposition bowling attack serviced by former Proteas fast bowler Hardus Viljoen and England seamer Sam Curran.

Miller, meanwhile, dropped the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav – and caught countryman Quinton de Kock and trio Hardik, Pollard and Krunal Pandya.

The result pushed Mumbai to third position in the competition’s six-team standings, while Punjab slipped to fourth.
