Proteas opener Aiden Markram says he is encouraged and excited about Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma’s new appointments as respective Test and limited-overs captains.
Cricket South Africa announced Elgar and Bavuma as the new permanent captains of the respective teams last week.
Markram, who starred with the bat alongside Elgar for the Titans on Wednesday, says he is looking forward to the new leadership roles they will take up.
‘I’m over the moon for Dean. Him and I come a long way. We’ve been playing together for the past four to five years and he is a great leader. He is going to be a person who sets very high standards and will demand a lot from the players. Maybe that is something we will need going forward,’ Markram said on Wednesday.
‘His captaincy will be very similar to the way he bats. He certainly doesn’t throw in the towel and will demand a lot from his players in the sense of never giving up and always fighting tooth and nail for every inch to get ahead in the game.’

Markram and Elgar shared a 213-run stand in the Titans’ draw with the Knights at SuperSport Park with the right-hander reaching his maiden first-class double century, while Elgar fell ten runs short of his ton.
‘That’s how I see him taking over the team and he certainly won’t settle for anything below par and for mediocrity, which is great. I’m looking forward to his and Temba’s campaigns. It’s going to be super exciting.
‘I wish him and Temba all the very best because they are great leaders and I know they’ll do a fantastic job for the country,’ Markram added.
