Aiden Markram may yet make his Proteas debut during the England series, after it was decided that he’d remain with the squad.
Initially, Markram’s inclusion in the squad was by virtue of Du Plessis’ unavailability for the first Test, and he was scheduled to return home to feature for South Africa A in their two four-day matches against Australia A. The Australians have since cancelled their tour, however, due to the ongoing pay dispute between players and Cricket Australia.

A contingency plan is being made and a replacement bilateral series is said to be announced later in the week, which means Markram’s availability for the Proteas will be monitored match by match.
Markram enjoyed a fruitful tour of England with the SA A side, during which he scored a century against Hampshire and 71 against the England Lions.
The Proteas face England in the second Test at Trent Bridge, beginning on Friday.
