Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder have both been named in the Proteas ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan to South Africa.
Cricket South Africa on Thursday announced the respective ODI and T20I squads for the series against Pakistan, which gets under way on 2 April.
Markram hasn’t played ODI cricket for the Proteas since the final pool match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, while Mulder’s last outing in the 50-over format was against Sri Lanka in March of the same year.
There are also maiden call-ups for Wiaan Lubbe in the T20I squad and Lizaad Williams, who is part of the 22-man ODI squad.
SuperSport Park and the Wanderers will be the two bio-secure venues for the duration of the tour. A three-match ODI series will kickstart the tour in Centurion, followed by four T20Is.
The tour will be Temba Bavuma’s first assignment as the newly appointed captain of the Proteas limited-overs teams.
‘We’re very excited about these two squads that we have selected for our home tour against Pakistan,’ said CSA convenor of selection Victor Mpitsang.
‘The ODI squad boasts the calibre of talent we have in South African cricket and I’m really excited to see how they go about the series. We have enough experience within that squad to provide a good challenge to Pakistan when they arrive on our shores.
‘The T20 squad is also a good indication of our depth as a cricket nation with the loss of some of the senior players to the IPL. We have a massive 18 months of T20 cricket coming up, with two ICC T20 World Cups for players to contest. We as a selection panel are looking forward to seeing what the new additions to the team will contribute to the Proteas’ system.’
