Aiden Markram says he hopes to learn from new Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins after losing the captaincy.
While Markram has led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back SA20 titles, his Hyderabad team finished last in the 2023 IPL after four wins from 14 matches.
“I fully accept the Sunrisers’ decision,” Markram told Rapport newspaper. “I am in favour of any decision by Hyderabad that will benefit the team.
“Pat is an exceptional captain of Australia and I would like to draw on his reservoir of leadership skills.
“It might also help me develop as a leader. I myself might share a tip here and there. And of course I would want to add value with the bat and try to win matches for Hyderabad if I am selected.”
Last year, the Proteas batsman scored 248 runs in 13 IPL matches at an average of 22.54 and a strike rate of 125.88.
“I don’t think I want to change a hell of a lot,” said Markram when asked how he could improve on that performance.
“I’m not going to move away from my DNA or from the shots that I have confidence in. I’m going to keep backing up those shots that have paid dividends. I’m going to stay true to myself as a player.”
