Janneman Malan scored a century in the Proteas’ first warm-up match against the England Lions in Taunton on Tuesday.
The Proteas gave game time to all 17 squad members in a match that did not have List A status, with all of their batsmen getting a chance to bat and all of their bowlers a chance to bowl.
Malan’s 103 came off 116 balls and included 11 fours and two sixes. David Miller (55* off 36) and Heinrich Klaasen (51 off 35) then both hit half-centuries as the visitors posted 318-9 in their 50 overs.
The Proteas bowlers were less successful, as the England Lions needed just 37.1 overs to reach their target and win by six wickets.
Opener Will Smeed top-scored with 90 off 56 balls, while Tom Banton made 57 off 46, Ben Duckett 85 off 67 and Stephen Eskinazi 52* off 36.
Andile Phehlukwayo took 2-45 in his five overs, while Keshav Maharaj and Dwaine Pretorius each picked up a wicket.
The second match between the teams, in Worcester on Thursday, will have List A status, with the Proteas expected to field the XI that will face England in the first ODI in Chester-le-Street next Tuesday.
