The Australian captain was well set, having scored his 24th Test half-century, and looking to build on a big innings for his team on day one of the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban.

Smith, trying to cut Maharaj, misjudged it completely and got a thick edge that deflected off Quinton de Kock’s gloves and into the hands of AB de Villiers, which left Australia on 151-4.
