• Magala, Livingstone defend ‘fortress’

Seamer Sisanda Magala relished an impressive performance, after the Cape Town Blitz beat the Jozi Stars by 57 runs in Thursday’s Mzansi Super League fixture at Newlands in Cape Town.

Magala completed figures of 3-17 in two overs. His haul included the key dismissals of middle-order batsman Ryan Rickelton and continued to justify the Blitz’s big purchase at the MSL player draft earlier this year.

Magala was bought by the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants for R250,000 in 2018, but was purchased by the Blitz for R500,000 more in 2019.

‘I feel good about this. It’s also good to start with a good defence of the fortress. The coach asked for a comeback and there’s no better place for a comeback than at the homeground. I am really thankful for all the wickets I got today and I can’t really pick the best one in particular,’ said Magala, who was part of the XI that lost to the Paarl Rocks late last week.

England recruit Liam Livingstone was named Player of the Match. The Blitz star struck 65 from 41 deliveries, which included a trio of fours and quintet of sixes.

‘It was a nice win. We said as a group that we wanted to make this a fortress, so it’s a good start. We were very lucky to bat behind the top two. I’m used to opening the batting and now I am getting used to a different role,’ added Livingstone.

‘Thankfully the boys have been welcoming to the overseas guys on and off the field, and hopefully we can keep winning.’
