Imran Tahir’s CPL side Guyana Amazon Warriors raced to an eight-wicket victory over the Barbados Tridents to jump to the summit of the log.
Led by former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman, Luke Ronchi, the Amazonians chased down Barbados’ 165-7 in 16.3 overs.
The 37-year-old smashed an unbeaten 67 off 40 balls and was aided by a 34-ball 43 from Chadwick Walton who helped his side to 96 before he lost his wicket in the 10th over.
In stepped Ronchi and the rest was history.
Cameos from Shimron Hetmyer (30 off 30 balls) and a six-ball 14 from South African all-rounder Cameron Delport, helped Guyana seal their victory.
Their dominance started with an effective bowling display. Proteas spinner, Tahir (2-21), once again proved his effectiveness by throttling the hosts to 165 with a double in the 20th over. He did so by ending an essential blast from Nicholas Pooran who hit four fours and two sixes for his 27-ball 46. He also removed the dangerous Jason Holder to prevent the target from getting out of reach.
The key wicket of the innings, however, came from Sohail Tanvir (2-28) who removed Steve Smith after the Australian lifted his side from 39-3 to 160-4 before becoming his side’s fifth wicket to fall on 40 off 33 balls (five fours).
Proteas superstar Hashim Amla was unable to impress scoring just two before Roshan Primus (2-30) got his second wicket of the match. Primus was also responsible for the wicket of Dwayne Smith (28 off 16 balls; one four, one six).
