Central Gauteng Lions pace bowler Tshepo Moreki took 5-65 as Western Province were bowled out for 312 in the 4-Day Domestic Series final at the Wanderers.
It was Moreki’s first five-wicket haul in his 96th first-class match.
At 285-5, WP looked set to bat the Lions out of the game, but the hosts then struck regularly to limit the visitors’ first-innings lead to 87 runs.
Gavin Kaplan (60 off 122 balls) and Daniel Smith (60 off 117) top-scored for WP after being dropped when they had scored just 10 and three, respectively.
Edward Moore (45 off 56 balls) and Tony de Zorzi (51 off 59) had earlier made significant contributions at the top of the order, with the latter looking set for a big score before being caught behind off a superb delivery from Moreki.
But it was WP who finished day two of the five-day contest on a high after picking up the wickets of openers Dominic Hendricks (six) and Joshua Richards (two) to leave the Lions on 10-2, still trailing by 77 runs.
