Wiaan Mulder will finally play county cricket for Leicestershire in 2022.
The 23-year-old all-rounder was set to do so this year but pulled out in order to be available for the Proteas.
“I am very excited to join the Foxes family this upcoming season and grateful for the opportunity,” Mulder told the Leicestershire website. “We have an exciting squad and I hope to contribute a lot on and off the field during my time at the club.”
Director of cricket at Leicestershire and former Proteas spinner Claude Henderson was delighted to clinch Mulder’s signature.
“We are looking forward to our players having the chance to benefit working alongside an international cricketer, as well as seeing Wiaan in the colours of Leicestershire,” he said.
Mulder has played six Tests, 12 ODIs and five T20Is for the Proteas.
