• Langeveldt joins Bangladesh

Former Proteas cricketer Charl Langeveldt has been appointed fast bowling coach of Bangladesh.

Langeveldt has succeeded former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh and been contracted for two years.

The 44-year-old Langeveldt played six Tests, 72 ODIs and nine T20Is between 2001 and 2010 and later worked with South Africa and Afghanistan as bowling coach.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, meanwhile, has been named spin bowling coach.

‘Langeveldt has confirmed his service after we talked to him. After he comes here, we’ll finalise all formalities regarding the contract,’ said Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan.

‘Vettori is in United States now. He confirmed with us through email. But he will be available for 100 days only and will start his work with Bangladesh ahead of the series against India.’

Hasan confirmed batting coach Neil McKenzie’s tenure has been extended. Fielding coach Ryan Cook’s contract, meanwhile, will be reviewed after the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh’s head coach position remains vacant, after Englishman Steven Rhodes was deposed after the World Cup in the United Kingdom earlier this year. Bangladesh finished in eighth across the tournament’s 10-team standings.

Former Proteas batsman Jonty Rhodes, meanwhile, has applied to be India’s fielding coach.
