The news of former Proteas batsman Gulam Bodi’s prison sentence for his role in spot-fixing took a twist on social media on Friday.
Bodi was sentenced to five years for his role in the 2015 scandal by the Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria. He is expected to appeal the decision.
The news caught the attention of a former Proteas opener Alviro Petersen, who took to social media to pass comment.
New issue: Bavuma – one size fits all
Petersen tweeted: ‘Good day for cricket!!! Gulam Bodi just been sentenced to 5 years in prison. He will apply for leave to Appeal and to extend bail his bail, pending the outcome of the appeal.’
In the wake of the Bodi scandal, Cricket South Africa and Petersen agreed on a two-year ban following charges under Anti-Corruption Code.
Former England star Kevin Pietersen, though, fired back with a tweet of his own.
‘You’ve really tweeted this when YOU were banned for two years for the part YOU played?!?! Wow!’ said KP in response.
The war of words continued as Petersen hit back on Twitter:
What’s wrong with it?
You seem to know a lot, why was I banned for 2 years?
While you are busy explaining, explain;
1. Reporting your captain to us in 2012, mid series?
2. Newlands test?
That’s it, FOR NOW…!!
