A spin-pace combination put the Titans in a strong position as they held the Knights to 304-7 on day one of their Sunfoil Series match in Bloemfontein.
The leg breaks of Shaun von Berg and the left-arm pace of Rowan Richards shared six wickets between them. Grant Mokoena was the only one who defied them: he was still there at the close on 143, his seventh first-class ton. He had faced 285 balls and picked up 15 fours and a six as he anchored the innings.
The Knights will be disappointed with the day, given that they were doing so well at 169-2 in the 56th over, with significant contributions from Luthando Mnyanda (31 off 38) and Theunis de Bruyn (29).
But then Keegan Petersen (24) was bowled by Von Berg and the innings slipped away. The Knights lost five wickets for 116 runs. Richards ended the day on 3-53 and Von Berg on 3-74.
The Titans will be pressing hard on day two for they are one of the only two teams to have won a match in this series – the other team being the Warriors. Every win is vital.
