Round four of the Sunfoil Series was met with another full house of draws as the four-day competition continues to drag on without a win.
The Titans sit handsomely in first place, thanks to the bonus point system and have racked up 57.42 points. Behind them sit defending champions the Knights with 52.88, the Warriors with 52.02, the Lions with 50.24, the Cobras with 49.58 and the Dolphins with 48.42.
Day four was highlighted by tons from Colin Ackermann, Eddie Moore, Sarel Erwee and Cody Chetty.
Out of the three matches on the day, the Knights had the best chance out of the six teams to claim the first win of the tournament. Needing 367 to win, with nine wickets in hand against the Lions, the Knights battled their way to 283-3 before the match was called a draw.
Luthando Mnyanda and Keegan Petersen hit 69 (9×4) and 71 (12×4) respectively in a 133-run second-wicket stand.
Then came the centuries in the dead-rubber encounters.
Erwee managed to reach his ton on day four, but was dismissed on 132 as the Dolphins were reduced to 278-3 against the Titans. Then came a 99-run partnership between Chetty and Vilas, which included a 142 from Chetty and a 58 from the ex-Cobras man. The hosts went into day four on 160-2 and still trailing by 124 runs, but they put up a brilliant fight to end the match on 427-4 to salvage a draw.
Similarly in Cape Town, two tons saved the day for the Warriors, this time Ackermann and Moore preventing their side from a defeat after the Cobras declared on 530-8 in reply to the Warriors’ 347. Starting the day on 12-1, the pair shared a 214-run second-wicket partnership as they clawed their way back from a 171-run deficit to take them into a 46-run lead before the match ended by tea.
Ackermann scored 105 off 190 balls (16×4) and Moore a 186-ball 101 (16×4, 1×6).
