Former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis has added to the chorus received by batsman Hashim Amla, who retired from all international cricket earlier this week.

Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is between 2004 and 2019. His 9,282 runs in Test cricket are the second most by a Proteas cricketer, after Kallis’ 13,206.

He collected the country’s third-most runs in ODI cricket – 8,113 after former skipper AB de Villiers’ 9,427 and Kallis’ 11,550.

‘Hashim has been and always will be a legend of South African cricket. I wish him well in his retirement,’ Kallis told The Indian Telegraph.

The veteran Amla will remain available for selection at domestic level and play in the 2019 Mzansi Super League.

‘Firstly, all glory and thanks to the Almighty for granting me this Proteas journey which has been nothing but a joy and privilege,’ said Amla on Thursday.

‘I learned many lessons during this incredible ride, made many friends and most importantly shared in the love of a brotherhood.

‘I would like to thank my parents for their prayers, love and support. It is their shadow over me that enabled me to play for years under the Proteas sun.

‘Also, my family, friends and agent, my teammates and every member of the support staff throughout this incredible journey. A heartfelt thank you to every one of you.
