Northerns Titans captain Sibonelo Makhanya has replaced Harry Brook in the Joburg Super Kings squad after the England batsman was withdrawn from the SA20 tournament.
Makhanya is a middle-order batsman with a decent strike rate in 20-over cricket at a shade over 114. He has been in good form for the Titans in List-A cricket this season with two fifties already to his name.
JSK needed to sign a new batsman after Brook was withdrawn from the SA20 by the ECB following his selection for England’s upcoming ODI series against the Proteas.
It is quite a blow for the Johannesburg franchise as Brook has become one of the most sought-after names on the T20 circuit. The Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for R27.6-million to play in the IPL this season while JSK paid R2.1-million.

It would be unfair to expect Makhanya to replace all of the runs lost with Brooks’ departure but it is a great opportunity for the young batsman to show what he can do in front of the biggest audiences local cricket has seen in a long time.
The Super Kings take on the Pretoria Capitals on Tuesday and are looking to bounce back from two disastrous defeats to the Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town.
