Monday’s IPL clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore has been postponed after two players in the KKR camp tested positive for Covid-19.
The 2021 IPL campaign has come under huge scrutiny in recent days as India record Covid-19 numbers while the competition continues.
Australian newspaper The Age reports that Pat Cummins and Ben Cutting are currently in isolation after they started feeling ill over this past weekend, while two Indian players in the KKR squad apparently tested positive.
Varun Chakaravarth and Sandeep Warrier have since been confirmed as the positive players.
This comes after fellow Australians Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson left the IPL last week over fears of the increasing Covid-19 cases.
Aussie batsman Chris Lynn also requested the Australian government to arrange chartered flights to take players back home as soon as possible.
‘We’re working closely and talking closely with the ACA ]Australian Cricketers’ Association), with the players and with the BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] to make sure everyone’s OK and the people have got full information,’ Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley told SEN on Monday.
‘There’s no suggestion at the moment of any charter flight. We’ve been in touch with the players there and they are generally in good spirits.’
