Kevin Pietersen’s return to the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad has suffered a setback after he picked up a calf injury while making triple-century for Surrey.
ESPNCricinfo reported the injury on Wednesday evening.
Pietersen’s international career hangs in the balance as he considers his next move after England’s new director of cricket Andrew Strauss said on Tuesday that there was ‘a lack of trust’ between Pietersen and the ECB and that is why he will not be considered for England in the short term.
Pietersen was due to join the Sunrisers team on Friday in Hyderabad. He was bought by the franchise in this year’s auction but was allowed to return home to England to play county cricket at his request in an effort to force his England selection.
However, the calf injury means he will play no part in the 2015 IPL. His next assignment is the Caribbean Premier League where Pietersen will play for the St Lucia Zouks.
His future in English county cricket remains uncertain.
