The Guyana Amazon Warriors crushed the Jamaica Tallawahs by 71 runs.
Shimron Hetmyer scored a brilliant 100 off just 49 balls to set up the Amazons’ score of 209-7, with great support from Shoaib Malik, who scored his 50 off 33 balls, including four sixes.
Hetmyer was the third wicket to fall, caught by Rovman Powell off the bowling of Oshane Thomas in the 15th over after dominating his side’s total of 162. Hetmyer hit 11 fours and five sixes, batting at a strike rate of 204.08. Big-hitting cameos down the order saw 47 runs added in the final five overs to set the Tallawahs a tough run chase.
Kennar Lewis hit three fours in the first over before being caught on the sixth ball by Malik off Keemo Paul for 14 runs. Black Cap wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips chipped in with 43 off 29 balls before he was bowled by Imran Tahir, and fellow New Zealander Ross Taylor scored 30 off 20 balls before being caught behind.
David Miller’s first innings since flying over from Sri Lanka yielded just 11 off eight balls before Tahir ran him out with a smart piece of fielding. From that point, all resistance crumbled as the Tallawahs were bowled out for 138 in 16.2 overs to taste defeat for the first time this season.
Pick of the bowling was Australian Chris Green, who took 2-19 off his four overs at an incredible economy rate of 4.75, while Tahir impressed again with figures of 4-0-26-2 (econ 6.50).
