The newspapers in Australia didn’t hold back this morning in the wake of their embarrassing series defeat to the Proteas.
Newspapers across the country tucked into the Baggy Greens after losing by an innings and 80 runs in Hobart on Tuesday. The match was technically wrapped up inside three days as rain washed out day two. The defeat followed their 177-run defeat in Perth, and it was their fifth Test defeat in a row.
The papers zoned in on skipper Steve Smith, but it was the rest of the batting lineup that has failed to come to the party for the Aussies, as they posted their lowest match total since World War II. Smith labelled the performance ’embarrassing’ at the post-match press conference, and the papers have generally taken a similar angle.
Would the South African media have the guts to post headlines like this?
