Jordan Hermann scored a scintillating unbeaten century as an SA Invitational XI dominated the second day of their four-day match against the England Lions in Cape Town.
The EP Warriors batsman, who fell for a golden duck in the first innings on day one at the Western Province Cricket Club, hit four sixes and 12 fours in his 112-ball 115* to see his side to the close on 193-4 – a lead of 330.
Earlier, the hosts’ bowlers dismissed the visitors for 152 in 33.1 overs thanks to three wickets apiece from Codi Yusuf and Corbin Bosch.
The former bagged 3-59 and the latter 3-20, while there was good support from Ruan de Swardt (2-15).
The day had begun with the SA Invitational XI on 285-8 in their first innings, but they managed to add just four more to that tally as Thomas Lawes (4-42) wrapped up the innings.
The South African bowlers then stuck almost at will and had the England Lions reduced to 72-7 at one stage, before Lawes (48) and Zaman Akhter (30) put on 76 for the eighth wicket to lift their side to a total of respectability.
But the margin between the sides at the changeover was still a substantial 137. And that only grew the longer Hermann batted.
He put on 53 inside nine overs with Lesego Senokwane (13) and then added 106 in little time batting beside Jean du Plessis (36).
By the end of that partnership the South Africans were in an excellent position as Hermann went to stumps unbeaten and his side in the pound seat.
