Warriors spinner Simon Harmer has landed a one-year contract with English county Essex next season.
The appointment is a big step up for the five-cap Proteas off-spinner, who has played for some years in the Lancashire League, the last being for the intriguingly named Monton and Weaste club last season.
But the 27-year-old has elected to play as a ‘Kolpak’ player, cutting his ties with the national team in South Africa.
At national level, Harmer, who made his Test debut in January 2015, took 20 wickets at an average of 29.40 with best match figures of 7-153.
Harmer, now captain of the Warriors, said: ‘Playing county cricket has always been a boyhood dream of mine and to have the opportunity to fulfil that dream at Essex is very surreal.
‘I am really looking forward to adding as much value as I possibly can to the team and making sure our time in the Championship is a long one.’
This latest signing comes hard on the heels of Warriors batsman Colin Ackermann’s appointment to the Leicestershire ranks.
Meanwhile, Ryan McLaren and Cameron Delport have been revealed as the only two South Africans in the Pakistan Super League T20 series which starts in February.
McLaren will play alongside Chris gayle and Kieron Pollard in the Karachi Kings franchise, while Delport will come under the captaincy of Brendon McCullum in the Lahore Qalandars.
