Four Proteas women have been signed up for the Kia Super League in England in August.
Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk, Shibnam Ismail — who all had successful stints in the Women’s Big Bash League recently — and Lizelle Lee, have won lucrative contracts for the inaugural T20 tournament.
Kapp has been signed by Surrey Stars, where she will join Australia’s Meg Lanning and Rene Farrell. The London team have also been allocated England stars Natalie Sciver, Laura Marsh and Tammy Beaumont to form a powerful line-up.
Van Niekerk, ranked No 2 on the ICC all-rounder rankings, heads north to the Loughborough Lightning team, along with New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Australian Ellyse Perry, the No 1 all-rounder; as does the fiery pace bowler Shabnim Ismail. She will be based in rough, tough Yorkshire, forming a new-ball partnership with England’s Katherine Brunt. Australians Beth Mooney and Alex Blackwell complete the international contingent.
Lizelle Lee joins West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor and New Zealander Rachel Priest in the sunny south-west of England, with the Western Storm.
