The 4-Day Franchise Series match between the Warriors and the Cape Cobras at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth (won by the Cobras with 3.2 overs to spare) showcased some terrific fielding moments.
First, one of the Cobras players did a half cartwheel after a brave attempt to stretch for a cover drive.
Zubayr Hamza took a brilliant catch at first slip off Dane Piedt to remove Warriors captain JJ Smuts, and also effected a smart run-out in the covers (from his fielding position in the slips) to run out Lutho Sipamla and end the innings.
Dane Paterson took a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Sinethemba Qeshile off Dane Piedt.
Finally, Lutho Sipamla put in a great effort to field a sweep that ran down to fine leg for four. What we like about this last piece of fielding was that Lutho didn’t give up, even putting in a dive at the end in the hope that it might help him to close the gap. Developing the habit and instinct to dive to stop a ball or take a catch can make all the difference sometimes.
