Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has joined the Belfast Titans as a supplementary player for the inaugural Euro T20 Slam.
Du Plessis was South Africa’s leading run-scorer at the recent World Cup in the United Kingdom. He will now be teammates with countryman JP Duminy, Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, New Zealand’s Mitchell McClenaghan, England’s Luke Wright and others at the Titans.
‘We kept a place back at the draft for a big-name signing. We have been able to secure Faf. I am thrilled. He is a world-class batsman and will bolster the depth in our firepower in the middle of the batting order,’ said Titans coach Ian Pont.
‘His experience in world cricket is immense. Not only his batting, but his understanding of all formats of the game make him a huge asset to us.’
Du Plessis is currently with the Edmonton Royals in the Canada T20 Global and will be accompanied by other Proteas – such as Glasgow Giants’ Dale Steyn, Amsterdam Knights’ Imran Tahir, Dublin Chiefs’ Robbie Frylinck and Edinburgh Rocks’ Dwaine Pretorius – at the Euro T20 Slam.
The Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland will host the Euro T20 Slam, which starts on 30 August and ends on 22 September 2019.
