In-form Proteas duo Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir underperformed in the Chennai Super Kings’ victory over the Rajasthan Royals.
Both players have impressed in the start of their IPL campaigns thus far.
Tahir has proved to be valuable throughout the tournament for the defending champions. The Proteas spinner has picked up nine wickets in seven matches thus far. This included a deadly performance against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore, taking 3-9 to help skittle them for 70.
Although he finished wicketless on Thursday against the Rajasthan Royals, he has still managed to keep his economy below six, and is the tournament’s top spinner thus far. His form is undoubtedly key to the Proteas World Cup success as they aim to clinch a maiden World Cup title.
Proteas skipper, Du Plessis, scored nine opening the batting for his side, but despite this, a return of 104 in three games is admirable. Du Plessis warmed the bench in CSK’s opening four matches. But he finally got his chance and struck 50 in his opening match followed by a match-winning 43 not out against KKR.

There are no concerns, however, over their form as they aim to build steam ahead of the Proteas’ World Cup campaign.
