Faf du Plessis is among five signings announced by the Joburg Super Kings for South Africa’s new T20 tournament.
The franchise, which is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, has also picked up England all-rounder Moeen Ali, Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana, West Indies bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd and Free State Knights fast bowler Gerald Coetzee.
“We have decided to pick Faf, Moeen, Maheesh and Romario as the four players who have been contracted by Cricket South Africa,” said KS Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited. “We are also allowed to take one development player from South Africa. We have decided on Gerald, as recommended by Faf.”
Du Plessis is an IPL veteran, making his debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2012 and a star of the side’s most recent title in 2021.
He was bought by the Bangalore Royal Challengers in 2022 and replaced Virat Kohli as captain.
