Faf du Plessis fought a valiant battle with little support as his Patriots team went down by 35 runs to the St Lucia Zouks in the CPL.
He fell two short of his fifty, having faced 37 balls (3×4, 1×6). Only Jon-Jon Smuts offered any meaningful support, with 30 off 18 as the Patriots set off to chase down 175 to win.
Smuts tried to insert some momentum, smashing three sixes in his brief innings, before becoming one of Delorn Johnson’s three victims. Morne Morkel started the slide by removing opener Evin Lewis for seven in the third over, eventually ending with 1-29 off his four overs.
Earlier, the Zouks compiled 174 on the back of a 59 off 35 from Darren Sammy, a total which included five sixes.
David Miller‘s struggles continued as he managed to run up 11 off 19 balls, with one four. In his last 10 T20 innings, he has gathered just 112 runs; an average of just over 11.
The Patriots are firmly embedded at the bottom of the log with one win from eight matches, while the Zouks begin a hectic home run, having won two of their five appearances.
