• Faf extends Kent stay

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis will debut for Kent in first-class cricket this month.

Du Plessis initially joined Kent for the T20 Blast – and struck 92 runs in two fixtures.

He will play in next week’s County Championship Division One match against Yorkshire at Headingley in Leeds.

‘Kent Cricket’s 2019 Blast signing du Plessis has been made available for the club’s upcoming County Championship match away at Yorkshire,’ read a statement from Kent.

‘The right-hander has played 58 Tests to date for South Africa, scoring 3,608 runs at an average of 42.95.

‘His highest Test score of 137 came in his fourth appearance for the Proteas, against New Zealand at Port Elizabeth in 2013, and the 35-year-old currently has nine Test centuries to his name.

‘Du Plessis has also amassed 8,207 runs in 138 career first-class matches at an average of 40.62.’

The right-handed Du Plessis will captain the Proteas through October’s three-Test series against India in Visakhapatnam, Ranchi and Pune.

Kent currently occupy fifth position in 2019’s eight-team County Championship Division One, after four victories, five defeats and three draws.

This is not Du Plessis’ first time in English county cricket. He previously represented Lancashire before debuting for South Africa in 2011.
