Sarel Erwee’s maiden career-best ton, which helped the Dolphins beat the Cobras by 15 runs (DLS) at SuperSport Park on Sunday, is our Play of the Day.
Three games in and we have seen a century, courtesy of an unusual suspect. All the talk prior to the start of this Ram Slam T20 campaign was the availability of the Proteas, but it was an uncapped player who stole the show in the first round of the tournament.
Erwee ignored all hype surrounding the Proteas-ladened Cobras side and anchored his side’s innings, scoring 103 off 58 deliveries. The 28-year-old opener slapped 10 fours and five sixes en route to his first T20 ton, posting a career-best T20 score in the process.
Supported by his captain, Khaya Zondo (67 off 34 balls) and ex-Cobras and Kolpak signee Dane Vilas (32 off 21 balls), the Dolphins posted 231-2.
Despite the inclusion of Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Vernon Philander and Temba Bavuma, the Cobras were beaten by 15 runs (DLS), the rain delay flattering the margin of victory.
