South Africa A were 196-1 at stumps on day three of the final four-day match against India A in Bloemfontein.
The hosts will take a 188-run lead into the final day’s play, with Sarel Erwee (85*) and Zubayr Hamza (78*) at the crease. Captain Pieter Malan was dismissed for 27.
Earlier in the day, the visitors were bowled out for 276, with Lutho Sipamla finishing with figures of 5-99 after picking up another two wickets.
Marco Jansen (3-48) claimed the other two Indian wickets to fall on Wednesday, maintaining the form that brought him a call-up to the Proteas Test squad for the series against India.
SA A quickly took the lead through a solid opening stand between Malan and Erwee before the former was dismissed by the series’ top wicket-taker, Navdeep Saini.
But that was the last wicket to fall on the day as Test-capped Hamza joined in-form Erwee at the crease to devastating effect.
Erwee brought up his second fifty of the match, which included nine fours and a six, while Hamza hit 11 fours.
