Eastern Province Cricket CEO Jesse Chellan will leave at the end of August to take up a new post at the International Cricket Council.
During his tenure at EPC Chellan has seen many highlights which include EP Cricket being named the most improved affiliate on the Cricket South Africa annual scorecard which brought with it financial reward to the Union. He has also secured a future partnership with the Metro in terms of assisting with the ongoing maintenance of St George’s Park.
St George’s Park, the oldest Test ground in the country, has also undergone some improvements with upgrades to various function venues over the past few months.
Mr. Chellan commented: ‘I am grateful for the time I have spent with EP Cricket and the Warriors. The last 17 months have been exciting and challenging. Firstly I am thankful to our commercial partners, the staff and players of both EP and the Warriors for their support and contribution.
‘EP Cricket has progressed significantly over the past year, highlighted by the performance of the EP provincial team, an unqualified audit from Deloitte, CSA award for the most improved affiliate in SA and the delivery of strong financials for the year ending April 2016.
‘The foundations of EP Cricket have been re-established and the organization is ready for rapid growth.
‘Secondly, I would like to thank the President of EPC Mr Donovan May, the Chairman of the CEC Board of Directors Mr John Ross-Smith and the Directors of both entities. Their support, guidance and most of all, their trust has contributed significantly to the positive relationship between Management and the Board.
‘I have experienced a few Boards in my time and the governance structures and expertise within EP Cricket is very strong and will most certainly continue in the future.
‘The Eastern Cape has treated me well and the friendships and memories that I have experienced will stay with me forever. I hope to stay in touch with the journey of cricket in the Eastern Cape and see it fulfil its potential. I have every confidence that this will be achieved,’ he concluded.
EPC President Donovan May commented: ‘The EPC Board of Directors is grateful to Jesse for the sterling work he has done over the past 18 months. He came to EP Cricket during a time of turmoil and financial instability and has managed to turn it around in a very short space of time. We will continue to grow and build on the strong foundation he has created. The Board of Directors and staff wish Jesse all the best in his new role.’
