• Elgar, Morkel strike early

South Africa managed to take two wickets in the opening session of the third Test as India went to lunch on 85-2 in Nagpur.

The ball is already turning and it’s only day one. The selectors opted to pick Simon Harmer alongside Imran Tahir, sacrificing the third seamer in Kyle Abbott who would normally have replaced the injured Dale Steyn.

India have picked three spinners, bringing back Amit Mishra, but Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first.

Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan got India off to a good start with a 50-run opening partnership before Dean Elgar caught the latter off his own bowling for 12.

Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada struggled for consistency early on, especially Rabada who struggled with his lines, but Morkel was much better in his second spell. He trapped Vijay lbw for 40 with a beauty to leave the first session shared between the two teams.

Hashim Amla has used all three his spinners, although Tahir has only bowled two overs so far.
