South African batsman JP Duminy has been released by Islamabad United, ahead of the 2019 Pakistan Super League.
Duminy is currently sidelined by a shoulder injury, which prevented participation in the Proteas’ ongoing limited-overs tour of Australia and the inaugural Mzansi Super League.
‘JP aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe,’ said Proteas team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee last month.
‘The injury will require surgical management, thus ruling him out of the tour of Australia and the upcoming MSL.
‘At the moment, we can’t say how long he will be out for, that is dependent on the results from the surgery.’
Islamabad also released England trio Sam Billings, Alex Hales and David Willey and West Indian duo Andre Russell and Samuel Badree, but retained former New Zealand and Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi.
The Karachi Kings kept South African Colin Ingram, but removed countryman David Wiese.
Batsman Cameron Delport left the Lahore Qalandars, who also removed New Zealand pair Mitchell McClenaghan and Brendon McCullum. Fellow Black Caps star Anton Devcich was retained.
The Quetta Gladiators kept batsman Rilee Rossouw, who will play in the Mzansi Super League, after replacing Zimbabwean Sean Williams in the Tshwane Spartans squad.
The Pakistan Super League will start on 14 February. Dubai, Sharjah, Lahore and Karachi will host the tournament.
