JP Duminy and David Miller both came good with the bat but it wasn’t enough to rescue their teams from defeat in the IPL on Sunday.
Duminy smashed 56 off 39 balls in a unsuccessful run-chase as the Delhi Daredevils fell short of their target of 190 set by the Rajasthan Royals.
Imran Tahir was rested for this match, and the Daredevils missed his presence as they conceded 189-2 in 20 overs. In the end, Duminy and his charges could only manage 175-7 to go down by 14 runs.
Duminy hit three boundaries and three sixes in his innings, before he was dismissed in the 18th over. Yuvraj Singh played a couple of crisp strokes before a pull landed in the hands of Stuart Binny patrolling the square-leg boundary. The biggest partnership for DD was the 41-run stand between Duminy and Angelo Mathews (16).
James Faulkner celebrated his return to the Rajasthan Royals XI with a brilliant spell of bowling; he picked up the wickets of Duminy and Yuvraj, while conceding only 22 runs in his four overs. Dhawal Kulkarni (2-43), Binny (2-27) and Watson (4-1-25-1) were the other wicket-takers for the hosts.
With this victory the Royals regained their position at the top of the IPL 2015 standings.
In the earlier game on Sunday, the Mumbai Indians beat Miller’s Kings XI Punjab comfortably by 23 runs, a target of 173 again proving too much despite a fighting 43 (off 37 balls) by Miller.
Three run-outs towards the end of their run-chase cost KXIP dearly as they could only manage 149-7 in their 20 overs.
