South Africa’s Leus du Plooy has signed a contract extension with Derbyshire in English county cricket.
Du Plooy has scored 385 runs, including a century and two half-tons, in the 2019 County Championship Division Two so far. He has also featured in the Derbyshire’s ongoing T20 Blast campaign.
He also played against the touring Australians recently and struck a solid 86. The opposition bowling attack featured Ashes series seamers Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle.
‘I am delighted to have Leus here. For a player to adapt so quickly is very promising and we are excited about how Leus will develop,’ said Derbyshire head of cricket Dave Houghton.
The 24-year-old du Plooy, who has played for South Africa Emerging, joined Derbyshire earlier this year.
‘I am looking forward to getting started with Derbyshire. I’ve wanted to play in England for a while, so I’m delighted to finally be here and get straight into the season,’ he said at the time.
‘The squad have made a good start to the summer and I want to score runs and do well for the team, so hopefully we can get more wins for Derbyshire.’
He plays alongside former KwaZulu-Natal cricketers Wayne Madsen and Daryn Smit at Derbyshire.
