SA U17 invitational captain Jean du Plessis and Mujaahid Toffar, hit half-tons to claim an 89-run victory against the Dolphins on Day Two of the CSA Franchise Cubs Week in Stellenbosch on Thursday.
The SA U17s set the KZN side a 235-run target after electing to bat first. Du Plessis hit 62 off 91 deliveries (5 fours, 1 six), while Toffar’s 55 came off just 59 (8 fours). The Dolphins struggled to take wickets, only Matthew Lees and Jordan Grobbelaar could manage a respective 2-28 and 2-35 as the U17s ended on 234-7 after 50 overs.
The Dolphins were restricted to 145 in 42.4 overs. Keenan Smith was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-24, with Fraser Jones and Cameron Brunner taking two apiece.
Elsewhere, At Spes Bona Cricket Club, the Warriors also bounced back well from their loss to the Titans on Wednesday, beating the Cape Cobras by 21 runs.
Jason Niemand, Matthew Breetzke and Jarryd Lookwhy scored 62, 52 and 46 runs respectively to help their side to 229-9 after William Sendin took a notable 4-48 in his 10-over spell.
The Cobras batsmen had ni answer. Only Gavin Kaplan (53 off 70) managed a half-century, while the rest of his teammates struggled to surpass Sisonke Mazele’s 27.
The Warriors won with just four balls to spare.
In the last two matches, the Titans and Lions continued their winning ways, beating Zimbabwe and the Knights by 109 runs and five wickets respectively. The Lions top the Pool A log with nine points, while the Titans are a point higher (10) and top the Pool B log.
