The North West Dragons beat the EP Warriors by 10 runs at St George’s Park on Wednesday to finish fifth on the T20 Challenge log.
The Warriors, who were also out of semi-final contention coming into the last league-stage match, ended sixth.
In Friday’s semi-final lineup, the top-ranked Northerns Titans take on the KZN Dolphins, with the WP Blitz up against the Boland Rocks.
The Dragons chose to bat first after winning the toss and posted 169-5 thanks mainly to the efforts of Heino Kuhn, who scored 78 off 57, and some big hitting by Senuran Muthusamy (24* of 11) at the end of the innings.
In reply, the Warriors lost opener Wihan Lubbe for a duck in the first over and were 44-3 in the seventh.
No 4 batsman Lesiba Ngoepe top-scored for the Warriors with 43 off 28 balls and while Sinethemba Qeshile (24* off 13) and Rudi Second (29 off 14) produced fighting knocks, they weren’t enough to secure victory.
Lwandiswa Zuma (3-25) was the Dragons’ most successful bowler, while Dwaine Pretorius and Duan Jansen picked up two wickets each.
